Wm. Malcolm Scopes - An American Original

Some American History

William Malcolm was born in Sullivan, New York in the year 1823. In 1855, Mr. Malcolm started making telescopic lenses for rifles, and his were some of the finest ever made. The "Wm. Malcolm Rifle Telescope Company" was developed and it continued making riflescopes until around 1940. This company was the first of its kind in terms of being dedicated to scope production and the innovative design of the optics became the standard to which all other optics were held. The Malcolm scopes introduced the light correcting achromatic lenses and were the first to offer an adjustable ocular lens as well. In addition, Wm. Malcolm's windage/elevation adjustable mounts gained an excellent reputation for their precise shot placement adjustment. Wm. Malcolm telescopes were coveted and owned by observatories in California and England. Various war departments of the governments of the US, Russia, England and Italy have all used the Wm. Malcolm telescopes in their ordinance. Initially, the lenses were all ground by Malcolm but eventually he brought them in from France and ultimately they were available in the US.

This riflescope also has a heavy recoil base and "rabbit-eared" type mount for security. By the way, there are more items available besides the scopes. Be sure to take a look at the wide variety of accessories, mounts, rings and bases, all designed specifically for these riflescopes.

Two Models, Tons of Features

There are two models available in the Wm. Malcolm Series and the riflescopes feature 4 inch eye relief, multi-coated lenses, adjustable focus eye-piece and standard mounts. They are parallax free, designed just like the original with an objective lens which has a 400mm focal length. That means there is hardly any difference in the focus distance from 100 meters to infinity. There is only a few thousandths of an inch difference in the image location, hence the parallax adjustment is redundant and as a result, the scope can be sealed better. All of these features help to ensure an excellent, worry-free shot and, for added measure, they're fully shockproof and waterproof.

The two basic models available can cover almost anyone's scoping needs whether they are looking for the late percussion muzzle loaders, the black powder cartridge rifle era or the early "smokeless cartridge" models. The long tube model comes with a graduated "rabbit eared" rear mount, and the short tube model features as "caged" rear mount. Both are adjustable for windage and elevation.

The Wm. Malcolm scopes are designed to work like the originals of 150 years ago. These long range rifle scopes look great on period rifles or even modern styled single shot or lever rifles.
